With over 2 billion monthly active users (and counting), Facebook can be prime real estate for your business and a great way to connect with potential leads and current customers.Unfortunately, and as with most social media platforms, competition is fierce. For this reason, we've put together 10 effective tips to help you transform your business Facebook page, convert more of those searchers into paying customers, and maximize your brand reach.

Before we dive in, be sure to download our free guide on the latest social media trends to help keep all of your accounts optimized and engaging.

1. Improve Your About Section

The “About” should be a snapshot of your business. You can also think of it as an elevator pitch. Try to answer the question: Why should a customer choose my business?

Have some fun with it! This is your chance to brag a little and explain why your business is great. What makes your business stand out? Did you recently win an award? Get featured in a newspaper, magazine, or some other publication? Great, be sure to add that here.

You should also include:

  • Your hours of operation.
  • A link back to your website to direct more traffic and provide even more detailed information.
  • Your contact information.

Above is an example of a robust 'about' section from Illinois-based, VIP Maid Services. Not only do visitors get an idea of the services they offer, but they also get a taste for what they stand for as a company and what sets them apart from competitors.

2. Optimize for Mobile

Having images, buttons, and text that is optimized for mobile is a must.

About 94% of Facebook users access the platform via the mobile app. Your content has to be readable (and viewable) on a mobile device.

For instance, 85% of Facebook videos are watched without sound on mobile devices, so if you have a video on your page, make sure it makes sense without audio. This could mean adding subtitles or making them visually instructive.

3. Customize Your Cover Photo

Remember how important choosing the perfect cover photo was? Well, it still is. Your cover photo is one of the first things a searcher sees when stumbling onto your page.

You want it to draw them in and make them want to learn more about your business. Make sure it’s a relevant, eye-popping photo that entices them to read on.

For example, Stillwater Pools in Georgia uses their cover photo to show off their main product—pools. They were able to use the visual real estate to entice potential visitors to learn more about their pool services. The image also looks great on a mobile device.

4. Refresh Your Page with Quality Images

No one wants to see crooked, blurry images from five years ago. That’s not going to catch their attention. Make sure that all your images are high-resolution, represent your brand, and are the correct dimensions.

Keep in mind that images display differently on mobile then they do on desktop, so make sure you are uploading images that work for both.

The images you choose to add should pop and showcase your best work, you and your employees working, and anything else that’s relevant.

5. Add a Branded Profile Picture

Adding a professional-looking logo or something else that’s easily identifiable as your brand can help you start building recognition. Adding a photo of your storefront, studio, or team can also make for great profile pictures.

6. Post Relevant Content Regularly

Customers are on your Facebook page to learn more about your business and services. The content they find here has to be accurate and updated frequently.

If you post every couple of months—or even longer—searchers might find inaccurate, outdated information that’ll result in them choosing a competitor over you.

7. Add a Call-to-Action Button

Popular CTAs can be used to encourage visitors to:

  • Call your business (provide a phone number or tap-to-call button).
  • Email your business.
  • Direct message your business.
  • Talk to sales.
  • Visit your website.

8. Pin Important Updates

Have an important announcement? Are you running a promotion? Do you have special hours? Pin that post to the top of your Facebook page so that every searcher can see it.

As part of its auto loan program, Michigan-based Zeal Credit Union pinned an enticing post to the top of its page—ensuring its nearly 3,000 fans and facebook page visitors knew about it auto loan services

9. Engage with Your Followers

When searchers or customers engage with your Facebook page, you have to respond. This can be on comments, posts on your wall, direct messages, or whatever way they reach out.

Keep in mind that they are engaging with you for a reason, so it is your responsibility to reply in a professional and timely manner.

10. Promote Your Page

There’s no shame in promoting your Facebook page. You’ve worked hard to build it so your current and prospective customers should see it.

There are a few ways to do this. If you want to be more discreet about it, you can add a small icon to your website, Yelp page, email signature, newsletters, blogs, and wherever else you see fit. This is an easy and convenient way for customers to visit your Facebook page simply by clicking an icon.

You also have the option of being upfront and asking customers to follow you on Facebook in person, via email, text, or on the phone. It only takes a few seconds and chances are they can hop on their phone and follow your page right then and there. And let’s be honest, it never hurts to ask—the worst they can say is no.

Follow these 10 tips and you’ll be well on your way to having an all-star Facebook business page. If you're ready to automate your business including client communications, bookings, payments, and more, sign up for a free, 14-day trial with GoSite!
